Checklist for going skiing

Going on a week-long skiing holiday? Worried you might forget something? Then follow this list, adapt it to suit the length of your stay, and set off with peace of mind!

1- Clothing: An idea of what to bring per person for a week, to be adapted of course to each individual depending on the length of your stay and the weather forecast!

• 3 pairs of warm trousers

• 7 T-shirts

• 3 jumpers

• 1 or 2 fleece jackets

• 7 pairs of underwear

• 3 or 4 pairs of warm underwear, such as leggings and thermal undershirts

• 1 pair of warm pyjamas

• 2 swimsuits

• 4 or 5 pairs of warm, high socks for skiing / cosy socks for the evening

• 1 or 2 hats / ear muffs

• 2 pairs of warm, waterproof gloves if possible / light silk under-gloves / mittens

• 1 windproof jacket, such as Goretex

• 1 or 2 pairs of ski trousers or a ski suit

• 1 ski jacket

• 1 bath towel

• 1 scarf or neck warmer

• Footwear: après-ski boots (moon boots) / waterproof trainers or ski boots / flip-flops (for the swimming pool)

• Sunglasses

• Hand warmers

• 1 small rucksack

• 1 water bottle

2- Skiing equipment (if you have it, otherwise you will need to hire it on site)

• Downhill skis / Snowboard / Cross-country skis

• Poles

• Sledge

• Downhill ski boots / Cross-country ski boots

• Snowshoes

• Helmets

• Ski goggles

3- If you are renting a chalet and linen and household items are not provided

• Fitted sheets

• Duvet covers

• Pillowcases

• Tea towels

• Bath towels/washcloths

• Disinfectant wipes

4- Toiletries bag

• Shower gel

• Toothbrush (dental floss)

5- For girls: make-up bag (take the bare minimum)

• Lipstick / total sun protection lip balm

• Mascara

• Pencil

• Make-up remover / cotton wool pads

• Hair ties / hair clips

• Sanitary towels / tampons

• 1 nail varnish / 1 nail file

• Total sun protection cream

6- First aid kit

• Alcohol

• Plasters (take 3 different sizes)

• Disinfectant wipes

• Mini scissors

• Arnica homeopathic granules (takes up less space, for bumps and bruises)

• Smecta (for stomach problems)

• Biafine (for sunburn or minor burns)

• Saline solution (if you get something in your eye or have a minor wound, etc.)

• 1 bandage

• Compresses

• Tweezers (for splinters)

• Cotton wool

• 1 Swiss Army knife

• 1 box of painkillers (such as Paracetamol, Doliprane or Efferalgan)

• 1 box of anti-inflammatories (such as Ibuprofen or Nurofen)

7- Mini sewing kit

• 2 buttons

• 2 mini spools of white and black thread

• 1 safety pin

• Super glue

• Small scissors

8- For leisure activities (check beforehand, as many games are provided at resorts)

• A good book

• Card games / dice / board games

• For children: consider bringing a few games and toys

• 1 raclette machine (if not provided by the resort)

• 1 GoPro or camera

• 1 mini speaker

9- In your handbag or satchel

• ID card/driving licence

• Credit card

• Cash (at least €100)

• Health insurance card

• Voucher or contact details for your accommodation

• Mobile phone and charger/earphones

• Sunglasses (and prescription glasses if needed)

• House and car keys

• Hand sanitiser

• 1 pen and paper

• 1 packet of tissues

10- For the car

• Snow chains

• 1 small shovel (if you still have room)

• 1 fleece blanket or survival blanket, 1 bottle of water and 1 packet of biscuits, in case of a breakdown on the road due to snow)

• 1 ice scraper (for the windscreen)

• Antifreeze windscreen washer fluid

• Windscreen de-icer / antifreeze spray
