Prepare for your holiday with peace of mind, step 3: Travel documents

The most important questions to ask yourself before making a decision:

• Do you need a passport?

• Do you need a visa? Check the official websites carefully! Also check how far in advance you need to apply for a visa (electronic or paper) and how much it costs. The official website used by airlines to check all formalities: https://www.traveldoc.aero

• Are there any compulsory vaccinations?

• If you plan to visit nature parks, have you applied in advance?

• If you need to drive there, do you need an international driving licence?

• Check your insurance before you leave (in case of accident, flight cancellation, hotel cancellation, etc. with your credit card, personal insurance or other).

• Do you need a European Health Insurance Card? If you are travelling to Europe, apply for one well in advance of your departure!

• Make photocopies of all your important documents and take them with you! You can also get an electronic identity card on a website.

One last piece of advice: when you are there, avoid going out at night with your passport. Leave it safely at the hotel and only take the photocopy with you. Always keep your identity card and passport in two different places! That way, if you lose one (or have one stolen), you will still have the other!
