Singapore, the Garden City
Singapore is a city-state located in Southeast Asia, at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, between Malaysia and Indonesia. It is a country, a city and a global financial centre, renowned for its cleanliness, modernity and efficiency.
Singapore is an incredible city that is definitely worth a visit! This ultra-modern city combines skyscrapers with traditional neighbourhoods such as Chinatown and Little India, as well as a huge, lush garden! This garden city has many pleasant parks and green roofs.
It is a multicultural city, very clean and very easy to visit thanks to its metro system.
Its only drawback? The cost of living is very high! Expect to pay quite a lot for your hotel compared to other Asian countries. On the other hand, you can still find inexpensive meals in the right neighbourhoods!
So, is it worth stopping in Singapore? I say YES! Whether you have a few hours or several days, this dynamic metropolis has a lot to offer.
Here are a few tips and suggestions for activities to suit your schedule so you can make the most of your stopover in Singapore!

Practical tips for your stopover in Singapore
Before leaving, check the entry formalities for Singapore if you want to leave the airport:
For British citizens, you need a passport valid for 6 months after your arrival date and you must complete an electronic form within 3 days before your arrival, called the "eHDC Health Declaration" or "Singapore Arrival Card". Mandatory formalities can change very quickly, so always check the official website: https://www.traveldoc.aero
If you are staying for several days, search for and book your hotel in advance:
Hotels are quite expensive in Singapore and the best-rated or best-located ones are often fully booked, so try to plan ahead. You can check websites such as Booking, Expedia or Agoda. Look out for special offers and discount vouchers and read all the reviews carefully.
You can find capsule hotels with dormitory-style rooms starting at €20 per person. Expect to pay around €40 or €50 for the cheapest double rooms.
They offer great value for money, you won't find better, and it's definitely an experience worth trying!
Want to try something unusual? Give capsules a go! We've tried them and we approve! You shouldn't be claustrophobic and you wouldn't want to stay there for a whole week, but for good value for money, you won't find better and it's really an experience worth having!
Pack light clothing, as Singapore is very hot and humid all year round, as well as sunscreen and mosquito repellent. Good walking shoes and a water bottle are also essential!
Download or print the MRT map in advance and locate the stops you will be visiting!
The Singapore metro is very clean, inexpensive and easy to use: everything works with your credit card, so it's very simple! Just find the stops, lines and timetables if you plan to go out in the evening. If possible, choose a hotel close to a metro stop!
By following all these tips, you can turn your stopover in Singapore into an unforgettable experience, no matter how long it lasts!

Singapore 2 to 4 days
Marina Bay Sands
A must-see and an iconic symbol of the city! Take a stroll along the pier during the day or in the evening to see the sound and light show on the water! MAGNIFICENT! An iconic symbol of the city.

Gardens in the sky
A superb garden in the city! You can stroll for hours in this garden and admire the "Supertrees" (artificial structures 25 to 50 metres high, covered with plants). The garden is free to visit.
Take a walk in this jungle in the city centre among palm trees of all kinds, petrified trees, flowers and, of course, giant trees covered with vegetation. There are various free and paid activities to enjoy in the middle of the garden:
• The Supertrees, artificial structures 25 to 50 metres high, covered with plants and illuminated every evening with a light and music show (free).
• The Flower Dome, the world's largest glass greenhouse, home to Mediterranean and semi-arid plants, as well as changing floral exhibitions (paid).
• The Cloud Forest, famous for its 35-metre indoor waterfall, imitating a tropical rainforest, with species living at an altitude of over 2,000 metres (paid).
• Floral Fantasy, an immersive experience combining floral art, light and technology, offering a colourful and fragrant world (admission fee applies).
• Jurassic World: The Experience, with life-size animatronic dinosaurs, ideal for families (admission fee applies).

The city: A modern city with traditional neighbourhoods
The city of Singapore is very pleasant to walk around, both during the day and at night! You feel safe and everything is very clean! It's not too noisy because most of the cars are electric!
• You can walk or take the underground from one neighbourhood to another. You will see many buildings with incredible gardens in the middle of the buildings with trees planted in ways you can't imagine! Deckchairs and grass next to the metro exits, bamboo scaffolding as far as the eye can see, and numerous rooftop bars where you can enjoy a drink in the evening!
• If you go for a walk in Marina Bay (famous for its spectacular urban landscapes), you can visit Marina Bay Sands and climb to the top of its iconic hotel, its SkyPark offering panoramic views of three countries, its huge hanging garden and its famous swimming pool (access is subject to a fee and regulations).
• Take a stroll through the colonial district with its many historic buildings, then on to Chinatown or Little India.
• For food, you absolutely must visit the "Hawker Centre"! It's a very old colonial market right in the middle of the skyscrapers! You can eat all kinds of local dishes at reasonable prices in a local atmosphere! It's a must-see!

Singapore 4 days and more
Explore the surroundings
In my opinion, three days is enough time to visit Singapore! But if you're staying longer, here are some other possible excursions:
• The 9 km trail from Harbour Front to West Coast Park, with views of Henderson Waves.
• The bird park
• MacRitchie Forest.
MacRitchie Reservoir is one of the best places to see monkeys in Singapore. These long-tailed macaques live freely in the surrounding jungle and are frequently seen walking around, especially near the TreeTop Walk, a 250-metre aerial walkway above the canopy. They are particularly active at sunrise and sunset.
• Katong & East Coast
Stroll through the Katong neighbourhood, with its Peranakan houses and Peter Wee's Antique House. Enjoy seafood at East Coast, then explore the Geyland neighbourhood.
• Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Singapore's largest nature reserve, is also home to numerous monkey troops. Although the summit of Bukit Timah Hill (163 m) does not offer panoramic views, the forest trails provide a good chance of encountering these curious animals.
• Pulau Ubin, an island close to the city centre accessible by boat. Cycling around the island is a great way to explore this wilderness and see monkeys too, especially near the traditional villages.
• Sentosa
Spend the day in Sentosa: sandy beaches, Universal Studios, S.E.A. Aquarium, amusement park, shops, cable car ride or night cruise on the bay.
